This engaging workshop provides case managers and Return to Work (RTW) Coordinators with specialist skills in the art of Motivational Interviewing which can then be used whenever relevant or necessary. This scientific conversation technique is a hallmark of psychologists and counsellors and has proven integral to the success of improving the mindset of an individual suffering from chronic pain and mental illness.

This practical training session provides tangible tools for employees at all levels to better manage conflict that may arise in the workplace. Conflict is a near unavoidable component of life, but better strategies to amicably resolve conflict can ensure that the impact is minimised when conflict does occur.

Signs of deteriorating mental health are hard enough to spot in our colleagues at the best of times. In a multicultural workforce, where communication styles and cultural norms for mental health differ significantly, this can be even more difficult. In this workshop, our specialised employees will provide you with the signs, symptoms and strategies to better ensure the mental health and safety of your colleagues.

The pace of modern life seems to be ever increasing and stress levels are on the rise. This workshop will equip you and your colleagues with practical strategies to manage stress, while increasing your efficiency and happiness at work and at home.

Computer-based work can have a significant impact on health, including predisposition to overuse injuries such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Ergonomic adjustment of a workstation can therefore significantly reduce the risk and impact of injury.
It is therefore vital that each staff member is educated on how to set up their own desk in line with best practice for risk mitigation.
Education will focus on the following:
- How to recognise risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomic issues in the work environment
- How to recognise signs and symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders relevant to the type of work conducted in the office space
- Reporting processes for risk factors and musculoskeletal disorders
- How to adjust ergonomic furnishings
- The process for employees to request ergonomic furnishings
- Appropriate posture and form
Kairros will also provide each staff member with an Ergonomic Education pack, which will information on all topics discussed.

Kairros will provide targeted, specific manual handling training to your staff in order to improve employee expertise and decrease risk of injury via manual handling. Our Manual Handling Training is based on the principles of the National Code of Practice for Manual Handling and our approach to manual handling training applies the principles of adult learning, ensuring that the training is interactive and provides a solid foundation of knowledge through practical demonstration, application and re-enforcement via competency assessment.
Core Service Delivery Outline
- Work group pre-visits, to conduct task analysis of stated key tasks for your workforce
- Customised training sessions, assessment protocols and Competency Assessment checklist for each workgroup and task
- A coordinated training schedule in consultation upon acceptance (Kairros is happy to provide training outside of business hours to ensure no loss of productivity. This provision will incur a 15% fee loading)
- Practical demonstrations and assessment to be undertaken (Kairros to coordinate availability of required equipment (if applicable) prior to each session, as per negotiated training schedule)
- Group reporting including risk profiling, trends and WHS recommendations provided to you upon completion.
Kairros’ training will be customised to your workforce and the specific work group tasks via photographic footage obtained during pre-visits, pending consent. All obtained information and footage/photography will be handled with the strictest confidence by Kairros in line with our Privacy Policy, relevant privacy legislation and intellectual property principles.

Learn how to use culture as a facilitator to recovery, while developing skills, knowledge and attitudes.

- Who’ll benefit: Anyone interacting with individuals of another culture to their own
- Outcomes:
1. Understand dimensions of culture
2. Define the differences between high and low context cultures
3. Understand the differences in relative importance placed on punctuality between cultures
In this session, we’ll cover 3 key principles that you should adhere to when speaking with clients who aren’t fluent in English.

1. Define and understand the impact of phrasal verbs
2. Define and understand the impact of “face”
3. Understand and utilise concept checking techniques
We’ll show you how to sensitively ask about the need for an interpreter, while outlining best practice before, during and after interpreter use.

- Outcomes:
1. Understand when and how to utilise an interpreter
2. Understand how and why an individual might refuse an interpreter
3. Understand the risk associated with informal interpreting
4. Understand the AUSIT Code of Ethics and how they apply to provision of services
How does culture influence the way pain is perceived and treated by the individual and their support systems?
- Time: 30 – 60 mins
- Who’ll benefit: Anyone providing services to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse clients suffering musculoskeletal or other physical injury
- Outcomes:
1. Understand definitions of culture, acculturation, ethnicity and race
2. Understand practical impacts on culture
3. Understand the mental health profile of the CALD population in Australia
4. Understand and apply the patient explanatory model
Here we’ll discuss how different cultures treat and respond to psychological injury. We’ll also review how your improved understanding can be used to facilitate recovery.
